Chapin School, East Windsor/Hartford, Connecticut, circa 1785-1800.

The shaped top with molded edge above a case of three deep graduated long conforming drawers on a molded base with ogee bracket feet, the case fitted with brass carrying handles.

Height 31 ¾ inches, width 36 ¾ inches, depth 20 ½ inches.

THE NOTED "HOUSE OF DERR"
PENNSYLVANIA DUTCH DOWER CHEST,

Dated 1778, Tulpehocken Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania,

The dovetailed case opening to a candle box, the inside of the lid stenciled "PETER DERR", circa 1832, and fronted with three arched panels, each painted with religious and mythological motifs, the central panel with two unfettered unicorns and an "olaf baum" or olive tree, on bracket feet, painted in black, red, green, orange and yellow overall.

CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY BONNET-TOP CHEST-ON CHEST
Connecticut, circa 1765-75.

The spiral-turned finials and molded broken arch with carved rosettes, above a case with an arrangement of three drawers, the center one with fan carving, over four long graduated drawers, and flanked by flat fluted pilasters. The lower case with four long graduated drawers and molded base with apron and shaped bracket feet. Replaced brasses, refinished. With paper label (on reverse): “F. Althans, Wakefield, R.I.”

The upper case with five graduating drawers, the lower case with a single drawer over three drawers, featuring a center scooped drawer.

Standing on cabriole legs and ending in ball and claw feet.
Old, possibly original finish.

The top with two drawers over three.
The bottom w/one  drawer over 3 smaller drawers.
Beautifully detailed skirt.
Cabriole legs ending in slipper feet.
Original brasses.

CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY SLANT-TOP DESK
Goddard-Townsend school,
Newport, Rhode Island, circa 1760-1780.

The ogee bracket feet of typical Newport formation with the straight inner edge but slightly broad for the case proportion. The interior with a  row of  drawers below pigeon holes, and a typical Rhode Island shell in the center door.

Height: 41½" x Width: 42" x Depth: 23" closed/36" with open desk.

Pierced and carved back splat, the crest rail with carved scrolled ears. The front seat rail with gadrooning below the rail.
Front claw-and-ball feet, squared back feet.

Salem, Mass., circa 1800-05.
The top section with pierced shaped cresting topped and flanked by brass urn finials above the flat molded cornice and hinged door opening to a polychrome painted iron dial, the maker’s name S. Mulliken” encircled in a wreath on a white and black painted plinth flanked by red and blue flowers on a black background; and a brass weight-driven movement with a drop-strike mechanism; the molded support and lower section of molded tombstone hinged door, all resting on ogee bracket feet, old surface.
H: 40”, W: 12” , D:61/4”

Banded inlay on waist door and on base, brass-stopped fluting, ogee feet, 12 in. painted iron dial signed Warranted by Wm. Cummens with moon phase in the arch and eight day time and strike movement.
Provenance documented inside the waist door.

COURTING MIRROR

The molded frame enclosing reverse-painted glass panels with floral designs and a flower bouquet in the crest.

Courting mirrors were imported from Northern Europe in the 18th century and later. They were a traditional courting gift presented by suitors to young maidens.
